Playalong – 2 songs for howling at the moon

Inspired by the astronomical nature of this month’s Bogani Cafe playlist, I thought about moon songs. Here are two for you.

If you saw the movie “Her”, here is a musical underlining of the main character’s deepening obsession with the operating system of his computer. If you didn’t, here’s a pretty song about the moon.

The Moon Song – Karen O

It’s easy!

Moon Song

Intro: Dm  G  C

Dm    G           C
I’m lying on the moon
Dm         G             C
My dear, I’ll be there soon
Dm     G         C
It’s a quiet starry place
Dm           G
Times we’re swallowed up
F                  Fm           C
In space we’re here a million miles away

There’s things I wish I knew
There’s no thing I keep from you
It’s a dark and shiny place
But with you my dear
I’m safe and we’re a million miles away

We’re lying on the moon
It’s a perfect afternoon
Your shadow follows me all day
Making sure I’m okay and
We’re a million miles away

You probably shouldn’t watch the second video if you are much younger than 14. Or much older than… well, if you enjoy Rick and Morty, please enjoy responsibly.

If you’d rather howl at a familiar moon, get out your Yellow Book and try these songs from this month’s playlist: It’s Only A Paper Moon, Moon River, Moonlight Bay, and Shine On Harvest Moon. The Blue Book has Allegheny Moon, Fly Me To The Moon, Blue Moon Of Kentucky, Moon Shadow, Moonglow, Moondance, and Hanalei Moon.

Otherwise, continue for the second video.

Okay, this video contains cartoon butts, extremely vague prurience, surrealism, hallucinations, robot civilizations exploding, despair, dysfunction, and offworld assassins being washed down a drain. Then a man yells at his grandson. I warned you.

This song, a deliberate over-the-top wink at David Bowie’s otherworldly period, is performed by Jemaine Clement, whom you may know as half of New Zealand’s Flight of the Conchords.

Goodbye Moonmen – Jemaine Clement

It’s moderately easy!  B flat minor might be new for you. Chord chart here if you need it: basic-chords

Goodbye Moonmen

Bbm                    C
The worlds can be one together
Cosmos without hatred
Bbm              C                              Em
Stars like diamonds in your eyes
Bbm                      C                      Em
The ground can be space (space space space space)
Bbm                           C                              E7
With feet marching towards a peaceful sky
Am                            Em                            G
All the moonmen want things their way
Am                       Em            F
But we make sure they see the sun

C    E7
Goodbye moonmen
F     Fm
We say goodbye moonmen
C     E7
Goodbye moonmen
F      Fm
Goodbye moonmen

Cosmos without hatred
Diamond stars of cosmic light
Quasars shine through endless night
And everything is one in the beauty
And now we say

Goodbye moonmen
We say goodbye moonmen

Goodbye moonmen
Oh goodbye
